Bombay Bicycle Club (with Lucy Rose and the Darcys)- The Rickshaw Stop (2/16/12)

Waiting in line outside the Rickshaw Stop, I met a couple (Stefan Fiorucci and Stefanie Schneider) behind me from Switzerland who said that the saw Bombay Bicycle Club on the street that day and found out they were playing a show that night. They didn’t have tickets, but figured they would wait in line and see if any extra came up.  As soon as I saw the Rickshaw stop dude approach our line, I figured I’d try and work my magic:

Rickshaw stop dude: “Every who is waiting in line MUST have a ticket. We are completely SOLD OUT.”

Me: “But this couple JUST got here from Switzerland! It’s their FIRST DAY in the STATES! They saw the band on the streets today and were so eager for the show!”

Rickshaw Stop dude: “YOU TWO (points to Swiss couple), come with me. I have some extra tickets for you.”And that’s how it’s done, my friends.  😉
Me, Ken and our new friends from Switzerland at the show!
Me and Stefanie after the incredible show!

I had been waiting for Bombay Bicycle Club to come to the states for OVER A YEAR. This show was even BETTER than I anticipated. The Rickshaw Stop is SUPER SMALL (~200 people) and I was able to get all the way up front (left cent)…pretty much hugging the stage. After ~30 minutes of waiting, I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn around to see the one and only LUCY ROSE as she quietly murmurs “Excuse me…I’m sorry but I have to get up on stage.”  I was a DEER IN HEADLIGHTS at that moment, and all I could think to do was smile big and say, “Wow…I’m a HUGE FAN.”

Lucy seemed to be shocked by how many people were there to see her. After I suggested her to play “Red Face” and “Night Bus,” she replied in bewilderment: “Wow, I can’t believe any of you even know my songs…” She started off with “First,” and then coincidentally followed with my two picks “Red Face” “Night Bus.” (*check out the videos that my buddy Kenny took that night)

The crowd was in awe of her hauntingly beautiful voice. I am STILL chilly from the goosebumps I felt that night…

The Darcy’s are a Canadian band…The lead singer had great stage presence and energy. (Got a photo with him later!..)

Right from the get-go, Bombay Bicycle Club was ON FIRE.  Jack Steadman (lead singer/guitarist) had great stage presence and his voice sounded just as good live as it does on their album. Check out the videos that my buddy Kenny took that night:

You Swallow So Much Sleep

Dust on the Ground

Open House

Shuffle  (Encore)

Other favorites of mine they played that night were “Always Like This,” “Light Out, Words Gone” and “Your Eyes.” I would see Bombay Bicycle Club again IN A HEARTBEAT.

After the show, I met The Darcy’s, then Lucy Rose, and then Bombay Bicycle Club. WHAT.A.RUSH.
